SURVIVORS was photographed in and around Ojai following the Thomas Fire of December 2017, an event that reshaped the town I call home. Like many in the community, I evacuated as the fire swept through the landscape, uncertain of what would remain.
When I returned, the landscape was transformed—burned, exposed, and shockingly quiet. SURVIVORS is my way of processing that moment and bearing witness to both loss and persistence.
Charred trees, altered terrain, and fast signs of regrowth reflect the evolving relationship between people and place. This series is not about the spectacle of fire, but about what endures afterward.
The complete body of work includes over 25 images, photographed on Hasselblad medium format digital and intended to be printed at large scale to fully reveal detail, color, and texture.
